Meet Dr. Brown

The name Flying Oaks DPC captures the essence of our practice, where Dr. Brown's remarkable journey as an Air Force pilot and flight surgeon aligns with the majesty of our ranch's centuries-old oak trees. This intersection of soaring vision and deep roots mirrors his approach to medicine – combining the precision of his military background with the wisdom gained from decades of caring for whole persons, not just symptoms.

Dr. Brown's path began at Texas Christian University, where he earned his BS in biology in 1971. Following graduation, he attended USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training at Reese AFB, earning his wings in April 1972. For the next eight years, he mastered multiple aircraft including the A-7D Corsair II, the OV-10 Bronco, and the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

In 1980, following a calling to medicine, Dr. Brown attended Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1984, he became board-certified in family practice in 1987 and served the Wichita Falls community until 1992. Rather than choosing between his two passions, he reunited them by rejoining the USAF as a flight surgeon in 1992. By 1993, he achieved the distinctive role of pilot-physician, flying the F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter.

His expertise led him to serve as a researcher with the Air Force Research Laboratory from 1997-1999, followed by an appointment as Senior Medical Officer Pilot with the Royal Air Force Centre of Aviation Medicine at RAF Henlow, UK from 1999-2002, where he flew the Hawk T Mk 1. Dr. Brown concluded his military career in 2011 as a colonel and Director of Human Performance Integration at the 711th Human Performance Wing, Brooks City-Base, TX, where he was responsible for Human Systems Integration and Human Performance.

His accomplishments include earning a Diploma in Aviation Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and elections as Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association, Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. From 2011-2017, he continued serving the military medical community as an associate with Booz, Allen, Hamilton, consulting primarily for the USAF Surgeon General.

Dr. Brown's pursuit of deeper healing knowledge led him to complete a two-year Fellowship in Integrative Medicine with the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in 2020. In 2022, he expanded his expertise by becoming a Trauma-Sensitive HeartMath Certified Practitioner through the HeartMath Institute. He has also trained in and leads a Freedom Prayer inner healing ministry.
